Alias City

A reader enters the book in the midst of a tumult of voices, identities, and histories.  Fellner, an Austrian émigrée, seems to be, at once, the voice of these poems and the subject of Frost’s elegies. Together, these two women’s lives, written side by side, sustain and shape this intricate and eloquent volume.  Frost has been one of her generation’s pioneer lyric poets.  She further enlarges the lyric here: Alias City is a far-reaching exploration of history, suffering, and, above all, of art with its betrayals and salvations.

Entwined: Three Lyric Sequence

Written over twenty-five years in three series, Carol Frost’s twelfth book of poems is formally elegant but fierce in feeling, boldly exploring lineation, an elastic syntax, and inventive punctuation to reach an extraordinary sensory intensity.

Honeycomb

The poems spring from her experiences with her mother’s struggle with Alzheimer’s disease, forming a deeply moving meditation on memory and its role in the creation and evolution of identity and relationships.

The Queen’s Desertion

In her tenth collection of poems, Carol Frost describes a journey through loss. How can one regain equilibrium in the face of absences such as dementia and death? We have to keep moving, even while realizing that the loss of mind and body is the natural conclusion.

I Will Say Beauty

"I will say beauty," Carol Frost boldly says in one of her new lyrical poems, beauty being for her and all of us elusive-in and out of nature. The phrase is meant as a cri de coeur, and the poems are arranged to offer a fresh way to look at-and exist within-nature. For Frost, beauty is a far cry from the decorous and social.

Love and Scorn

Love and Scorn: New and Selected Poems combines twenty new poems by Carol Frost with a substantial selection of work from her previous seven books. In forms ranging from the sonnet to the lyric to the narrative, Frost's poems are fiery, passionate meditations on experience and consciousness.

Venus & Don Juan

Her poems are an inquiry into morals and mystery: she explores love, lust, pleasure, loneliness, regret, and envy, while voicing a longing for love that cannot be sustained. Frost is a thoroughly original poet whose artistic project is unique in American poetry, and this is her best work.

Pure

"Carol Frost's powerhouse poems . . . are saturated with urgency. Their special province is the violence reflected in our innermost selves, where conscience is often defeated by knowledge of a world that is not oly terrifying and beautiful, but highly deterministic."
